The Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) is ready to celebrate its 30th Anniversary at the Create, Enjoy and Celebrate programme, an all-ages free event taking place tomorrow, Friday, August 24, 2012 at Celebration Square (300 City Centre Dr.). Everyone is invited to come out to create, enjoy & celebrate during an enchanting evening full of festivities, kicking off with some very impressive film screenings and an artisan marketplace at 5 p.m. followed by an electrifying ensemble of stage performances at 7 p.m., and explore the explosion of arts and culture in the beauitful city of Mississauga!

The event is produced by Vikas Kohli of FatLabs and hosted by Mississauga homegrown talent, CityNews' Francis D'Souza, who will be announcing the exhilarating lineup of performances incorporating over 10 multidisciplinary, multicultural and collaborative acts from over 100 of the most talented artists in the city! The soiree will include elements to fulfill everyone's artistic desires! It will feature musicians operating in different genres who will work together with filmmakers, visual artists, spoken word artists, poets, and dancers to create a cross-cultural jam intermingling Chinese, Indian and Latin flavours.

There will be over 15 filmmakers showcasing their films between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. on the big screens of Celebration Square, including: Internationally acclaimed filmmaker, Pasquale Marco Veltri; MIFF Founder, Matt Campagna; 2011 MARTY Award winner in Established Media Arts, Peter Rowe; 2012 MARTY Award winner in Emerging Media Arts, Dany Gehshan; Michelina Williams; Jay Bond; and Louise Peacock.

We will see some impressive documentaries from Marcel DaCosta; multimedia specialist, Dorothy Weiss; Asim Hussain; Ash Varma; and the Clarkson Walk Collaborative. There will also be a special presentation from Reel Flare Productions.

We will also be showcasing some music videos of some of our MAC members, including Rob Tardik, Jay T, James Faulkner and Carlos Bastidas. In the heart and soul of Carlos Bastidas lies an insatiable passion for music and its infinite ability to educate, uplift and empower. With musical roots cultivated deep in the heart of Colombia, Carlos is a consummate Latin, Jazz and World Music musician known first and foremost as an award-winning flutist and master of the 'Kena' Andean Flute.

Mississauga City Councillor for Ward 9 Pat Saito applauds MAC for being the heart and soul of the city for 30 years. "What an exciting event this is! We're celebrating this evening the 30th Anniversary of the Mississauga Arts Council, affectionately known as MAC. It's been such a pleasure for me to have worked with MAC for not quite all, but many of those 30 years and to have seen how MAC has worked extremely hard to grow the arts and culture in the city of Mississauga. MAC has been the voice of the arts for all these years and the members and the staff have worked exceptionally hard to nurture new artists of all types of venues. Tomorrow night will be a celebration, a culmination of those 30 years. And you're going to see so many wonderful performances from our very talented artists in the city of Mississauga. You are going to have the opportunity to look at the crafts they produce for our citizens. A city is not really a city without a soul and the arts bring that soul to Mississauga. Thank You MAC, thank you for all of the work that the members and the many, many volunteers have put in and the staff over these 30 years, we're looking forward to another 30! Have a great time!"

We invite everyone to come out and make a difference by supporting an organization that has been "fostering and developing, supporting and championing a vibrant, dynamic arts community in the city of Mississauga" for the past 30 years!
